Genesis medical aid is not as well known as the Discovery Health – the industry giant – but Genesis is small and healthy.

Genesis offers only four plans, which range from basis hospital plan cover to comprehensive medical aid including a medical savings account. This makes choosing a suitable medical aid plan easy, compared to such complicated offerings from Discovery medical aid and Momentum Health.

An Open Medical Aid

Genesis medical aid is unrestricted meaning that anyone can join who does not already belong to a medical aid. This is unlike a so called closed medical scheme such as GEMS medical aid. GEMS is the acronym of Government Employees Medical Scheme. Only government employees and their families can become members of GEMS.

Genesis medical aid is simple. You can choose from two hospital plans namely Private and Private Choice. You have total flexibility on where you go to hospital. Every Genesis medical aid plan includes basic dentistry to a value of R25 000 per member annually.

Their two fully fledged medical aid plans are Private Plus and Private Comprehensive. Both include medical savings account. The latter, as the name suggests is the most comprehensive cover you will get from Genesis medical aid.

Genesis Hospital Plans

Genesis Private Choice – Your choice of state or private hospital with total amount paid plus any hospital related bills, basic dentistry, medical evacuation and major illness covering organ transplant, stroke and cancer for certain amounts

Genesis Private – This is one step up from Private Choice. You get more benefits because you pay more Your choice of state or private hospital with total amount paid plus any hospital related bills, basic dentistry, medical evacuation and major illness covering organ transplant, stroke and cancer for certain amounts

Genesis Medical Aids

Genesis Private Plus – Everything you get from the above two except more, plus this include MRI / CT scans and diagnostic scopes. You also have a medical savings account for day-to-day expenses

Genesis Private Comprehensive – This is the Rolls Royce of Geneses medical aid choices. It is not cheap but then again it is not as expensive as similar plans from Discovery Health medical aid and Liberty medical aid. You get everything you get from Genesis Private Plus but to higher levels of medical cover plus your medication and consultations are covered.

Why Genesis Medical Aid?

We at Medical Plan Advice like Genesis because it is small and it has something to prove. It is in fact more financially liquid than Discovery Health, meaning it is better positioned to cover the claims of its members, no matter how extreme these may be. This fact has caused some bad blood between Genesis and Discovery. The latter does not like to be reminded that is not perfect.
